Duties and Responsibilities
Under the daily management of Policy Specialists and Policy Analysts in UNDP’s Bureau for Policy and Programme Support (BPPS), Global Policy Network (GPN), the intern will work on followings:
In particular, the intern is responsible for the following outputs:
  • Support UNDP’s electoral portfolio with the update of the election project data registry and websites
  • Support research and events for election, parliament, legal identity and civic engagement portfolio
  • Support communication and advocacy for election, parliament, legal identity and civic engagement portfolio
  • Conducting other tasks as requested.

  • Enrollment in a graduate-level degree programme at the time of application and during the internship in a relevant discipline (social or political sciences, law, international relations, economics, public or business administration, etc.) with a demonstrated interest in democracy promotion, public institutions, good governance and peacebuilding.
  • Exposure to democratic governance agenda, and preferably parliamentary development, electoral cycle, political participation of women, youth, persons with disability and/or legal identity.
  • Experience in research and analysis.
  • Excellent excel skills- strong advantage for candidates who can use macro sheet and pivot table.
  • Excellent communication and writing skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Experience organizing meetings.
  • Computer proficiency, including working knowledge of MS Office products. Experience managing web portals is an asset.
  • Prior experience with NGOs, UN, or international institutions is a strong asset.
  • Experience working collaboratively in a team structure in a multicultural environment.
  • Fluency in spoken and written English as well as French and/or Spanish.
Eligibility
Applicants to the UNDP internship programme must at the time of application meet one of the following requirements:
  1. Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);
  2. Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent);
  3. Have graduated with a university degree (as defined in (a) and (b) above) and, if selected, must start the internship within one-year of graduation.
Financial Arrangements:
UNDP does not pay for internships. The costs associated with the internship must be borne by the nominating institution, related institution or government, which may provide the required financial assistance to its students; or by the student, who will have to obtain financing for subsistence and make his or her own arrangements for travel, accommodation etc.
The intern will be engaged full-time from 1 March for a minimum period of 3 months, and maximum of 6 months. The intern will work from UNDP’s office in New York. Day-to-day supervision will be undertaken by policy specialists and analysts working for election, parliament, legal identity and civic engagement .

Quantum Ideas Ghana opens New Library at Awaso



On 3rd February, 2019, Quantum Ideas Ghana, a youth group advocating for quality education opened a new library at Awaso in the Western region of Ghana.
QI-GH is a non-governmental organization, made up of goal-oriented young professionals who are who believes in education-for-all.
At an honorable gathering of Chiefs and the people of Awaso, the executive director of the QI-GH, Madam Ethel Anne Komlaga launched the library. In few words, she said,

'Few months ago, we identified the need to operationalize an unused library facility in Awaso, a town in the Western Region. We were determined to create the opportunity for school going children and adults in the community to have unlimited access to learning materials that will enhance their academic activities. On this premise, we spearheaded the renovation, furnishing and stocking of the facility in collaboration with the traditional council and our partners.'

The Chief of Awaso Traditional Area, Nana Katakyie Kwame Amponsah II, thanked the group for their massive mobilization in seeing to it that his people also get access to library. He urged the youth to make good use of the library.
Also present were the clergy, heads of various institutions in the community and other dignitaries.

Young Peacebuilders in Middle East and North Africa, 2019 FULLY FUNDED (UNAOC)

The United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC) is pleased to launch the Call for Applications for the 2019 edition of the Young Peacebuilders in Middle East and North Africa programme. The call is open to participants between 18 to 25 years old, from the region, with a strong interest in growing their ability to act as agents of peace in their community, region and beyond and to prevent violent extremism through intercultural and interfaith dialogue.
20 young women and young men affiliated with youth-led and youth-focused organizations will be selected to participate in an intercultural dialogue and peacebuilding experience. They will interact online through a series of facilitated modules, and in-person, during a one-week workshop. After completing the peace education curriculum, participants will act as a force multiplier of the lessons learned through the programme and actively take part in follow-up activities at the community level. At the end of the project, participants are invited for a symposium to share their experience, lessons learned, achievements and recommendations with a broader audience of practitioners, UN, policy makers, media and civil society, bringing visibility to their initiatives towards promotion of diversity and dialogue.
Implemented with the generous support of the Agencia Extremeña de Cooperación Internacional para el Desarrollo (AEXCID), the programme supports the growth of networks of young peacebuilders who are equipped with the tools to address negative stereotypes, prejudice and polarization in order to build more inclusive and peaceful societies, tackling the drivers of violent extremism. The long-term aim is their integration in governmental peace processes and policies. It is part of UNAOC’s educational programming for young people, which seeks to enhance the ability of young people and their organizations to foster mutual respect, understanding and long-term positive relationships between peoples of different cultures and religions.

INTERNSHIP AT IBM 2019

The Great Minds initiative is a competition for 3 to 6-month internships at one of the IBM Research Labs in Zurich,Nairobi or Johannesburg for students from central and eastern Europe, the Middle East and Africa. It provides students with the unique opportunity to work alongside world-class scientists in the leading industrial IT research organization.
The internships will take place in 2019. The exact starting time and duration will be agreed upon with the winning students individually, taking into account their academic commitments and the availability of IBM staff.
IBM will pay the winners a lump sum towards travel expenses as well as compensation that covers adequately the cost of living in Switzerland, Kenya or South Africa, respectively. IBM will also obtain the necessary visa and work permits for the successful candidates.
IBM Research has been conducting the Great Minds internships for more than a decade. The experiences on both sides have been very positive. This program also benefits faculty members when the Great Minds winners bring back to their universities or departments a valuable understanding of real industry problems, knowledge of advanced IBM technologies, and contacts throughout IBM Research.

UNV and UNFPA partner on Young Innovators Fellowship Programme


The United Nations Volunteers (UNV) programme and UN Population Fund (UNFPA) are partnering on a Young Innovators Fellowship Programme for 2019. This programme will provide young people (aged 18-29) with the opportunity to engage in a structured programme to drive innovation, creativity and to deliver concrete results in UNFPA
Enabling young people to realize their full social, economic and human potential is a key aspect of this UNV-UNFPA partnership.
The fellowship programme provides an opportunity to bring 14 young people into UNFPA with a dedicated focus on both providing a youth perspective and driving innovation.  Selected fellows would join UNFPA headquarters in New York for two months, where they would undergo a dedicated leadership training. Two of the Young Innovators will remain as international UN Volunteers for a further six months at UNFPA headquarters in New York; these two HQ positions are open to applicants of all nationalities. The other 12 Young Innovators will return to their home countries, where they will complete six-month national UN Volunteer assignments in UNFPA Country Offices (and must be nationals of these countries). 
We will recruit innovative young people from around the world who have demonstrated commitment to development issues within their communities as UN Volunteer Young Innovators.
Our goal is to provide these UN Volunteer Young Innovators with the tools, skill sets, international experience and exposure to innovation to empower them to realize their career goals, thus building national capacity. Fellows in turn provide innovative insights and ideas that will enable UNFPA to be better aligned with development issues in their community.

Are you looking for a paid summer internship in Washington, D.C., working with organizations at the forefront of the movement to end hunger? Are you ready to develop your leadership skills in a dedicated, group learning environment? Join the Zero Hunger Internship Program!
For 10 weeks over the summer, Zero Hunger Interns are placed at Washington-based organizations that work to end domestic or global hunger. In addition to receiving leadership development training from the Hunger Center, interns also participate in a five-part Summer Seminar Series about domestic and global hunger, policy, and advocacy

Duties and Responsibilities
Working closely with the Rule of Law Advisor, the Intern will undertake the following tasks:
  • Assist in the development of women’s access to justice country profiles;
  • Carry out research and prepare succinct reports on different areas related to women’s access to justice and legal reforms, including within the context of partnerships with various United Nations agencies, academia, civil society organizations and the private sector;
  • Provide support to the organization of meetings and other activities related to the rule of law as needed.
Learning Objectives:
  • The unit to which the Intern is assigned will be responsible for providing adequate learning opportunities and exposure to a wide range of the Leadership and Governance Section’s work – policy and programme advice, creation of knowledge products, organization of workshops, and partnerships with leading institutions in relevant areas.
